- The United Nations World Habitat Awards ceremony, held on 5 October 1992 at its headquarters in New York, was attended by dignitaries from around the world.
- One such distinguished person was Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, who was there to present the awards to the recipients.
- Mr. Hsuan Owyang, Chairman of HDB, was on hand to accept this award for Tampines New Town in the Developed Country Category. This came with a cheque for 10,000 British Pounds and a specially designed trophy.
